Tiger Woods seals fifth Masters title and 15th major

Getty Francesco Molinari and Tiger Woods dueled for the 2019 Masters.

There's a five-way tie for the lead in the final round with Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Brooks Koepka, Francesco Molinari and Tiger Woods all at 12-under. Canadian Corey Conners enters Round 3 at 3-under par.

For the first time since the 2012 PGA Championship, Woods, 43, has opened a major with consecutive rounds under par. On the par three 16th Woods hit a superb tee shot - the closest to the hard pin to that stage of the round.

Italy's Molinari, the reigning British Open champion, stayed patient through five opening pars as birdies broke out everywhere on rain-softened Augusta.

I liked his post-round interview, where he said that he was just going to do what he can do and was calm about everything.

On Tuesday, a bettor at a William Hill U.S. sportsbook in Nevada placed an $85,000 bet on Woods to win the Masters at 14-1 odds. "I think that it's better for me because I'm assuming I'm going to be a few back still after today going into the final round, so I think a little bit of wind and trickiness helps".

Woods hit his approach to tap-in distance at the same hole, meaning a two-shot swing that left the 14-time major champion just one off the pace heading to the par-five eighth.

World number two Dustin Johnson was two-under through 11, US Open champion Brooks Koepka was two-under through 10 and three-time Masters victor Phil Mickelson was two-under through nine.

Tiger Woods is in position to claim his first major title in 11 years, after a record-breaking third round of the Masters. Through 54 holes this week Molinari has only made one bogey, and that came during the first round on Thursday at the 11th hole. You've got a lot of holes left, and you can make up some ground.

He saved par superbly from a greenside bunker on the 18th, just when it looked like he might give a shot back.

"Mentally was very good", he said. All of them made par on the first hole.

"I feel like I played my own way back into the tournament", Woods said. "I misread a couple of them and hit one bad one there at six, but other than that it was a solid day".

Mickelson stumbled to a 73 but still was only three shots behind.

He got there Saturday with three straight birdies on the front and finished with three birdies over his last six holes for a 67, his best score at the Masters since the final round in 2011. However, a four-shot swing over the next two put Watson in charge and he ultimately triumphed with relative comfort. McIlroy played the par 5s in even - two bogeys, one par and an eagle on No. 8 that got him under par, but only briefly.

"As a kid, I always wanted to compete against him and have the opportunity to ... you know, I've dreamed of playing in the final group with him in a major championship".
