Biden Holds Lead In New Democratic Presidential Poll

-The poll found Harris as the third most popular candidate for the Democratic nomination, behind Biden and usa senator Bernie Sanders, who was backed by about 16 percent of Democrats and independents.

"Round 1 of the Democratic debates puts Harris and former Biden on two different trajectories, as support for Harris surges but continues to slip for Biden", Mary Snow, Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst, said.

On today's show, we discussed news about former Vice President Joe Biden's opposition to a federal regulation requiring bussing as a way to integrate black students into traditionally white schools.

Biden has the support of 22 percent of voters while Harris secured 20 percent, according to the poll published on Tuesday. Elizabeth Warren at 13%.

When asked who did the worst job in the debates, 16 percent of these voters say self-help author Marianne Williamson, while Biden receives a almost identical 15 percent.

Crosscurrents underlie candidate preferences in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. She is the second choice of 17% - a telling measure of the potential breadth of a candidate's support. Showing strength among highly engaged leaned Democrats, she reaches 22%, virtually matching Biden's 25%, among those who watched both debates. Results among the full sample have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

Want to know how well @KamalaHarris did in last week's debate? The same percentage said they support Warren. The margin of error was four points.

In a CNN/Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll conducted in early June, Biden was also at 24% support among likely caucusgoers, Vermont Sen. Biden and Sanders were each at 16%, and Warren at 9%.

As noted above, the Democratic caucus process is unique in that it requires at least a two-step process on Caucus Night. South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg came in fifth with 4 percent support. In the second round, any candidate that doesn't hit the 15% mark is taken out of contention and the supporters of the remaining candidates try to get supporters of those eliminated to boost their candidate's numbers. Bernie Sanders at 19 and Biden at 30.

All other candidates below 5%. Twenty percent of Democrats surveyed in the Quinnipiac University poll said they backed Harris, the junior senator from California, up from just seven percent in a June 11 Quinnipiac poll.

"Clearly, the debate had an impression on Democrats and Democratic leaners we surveyed". What they do with the new attention those performances are giving them and how far that success can go is another question.
