Social media platforms experience further global outages

Facebook Inc on Wednesday said it was "back at 100 percent" after an outage on all of its services affected users in various parts of the world.

While Twitter is allowing its users to post freely, it is worth noting that the social media app is not entirely without issue.

The outages on Facebook have given users an insight to what happens behind the scenes.

"Nothing's loading on Facebook or Instagram but honestly, there are much worse things in the world", Rose Ellen Campbell wrote.

Facebook ultimately blamed the outage on an error that occurred during "routine maintenance". The accessibility function helps describe images to visually-impaired people.

An online statistics portal predicted that Facebook users in the Philippines are expected to reach 49.9 million by 2023. Some were amusing, while others were just disconcerting. Hashtags and hashtag pages were still not functioning, according to posts by some users, reports CNET.

Facebook did not respond to queries that the outage could have been related to its plans to link its three messaging platforms Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. And this is something Facebook has been doing since at least April 2016. All of which are affected whenever Facebook has outages. "We're now having some issues with DM [direct message] delivery and notifications", it said in a tweet. Communications through these apps are not feasible. The business will not only lose revenue but also its customer base. However, those ads were still billed to the advertisers.

Facebook's crash was still well underway as of 6pm United Kingdom time today, and it was primarily affecting images. In a similar incident in March, the company said it would consider refunding advertisers for lost exposure.

Frustrations over losses were high, but another issue was that advertisers were not notified about what was happening. Advertisers weren't able to strategize on what to do next. The outages are being reported as of Wednesday morning.
